إذا حضر الماء في غرفتي

وضوء السراج وجاء المطر

If water is at hand in my room,

When water comes to my room

And the lamp’s light, and the rain has come,

And lamp-washing rain arrives

فإن كان خبزٌ فيا حبّذا

فإن كان خبزٌ فيا حبّذا

وإن لم يكن فكريم صبر

وإن لم يكن فكريم صبر

Then if there is bread—oh, how wonderful!

If there is bread, wonderful!

And if there is none, then noble patience.

If not, then patience is sublime
