إذا فتح امرؤ للوصل بابا

فقد حصلَ التتبع والعتاب

فقد حصلَ التتبع والعتاب

If a man opens a door to closeness,

When a man opens the door of love,

Then scrutiny and reproach arise.

Reproach and blame will surely come.

ويتلو ذلك العتب اعتذار

ويتلو ذلك العتب اعتذار

ويبلغ ذلك العذر ارتياب

ويبلغ ذلك العذر ارتياب

And an apology follows that reproach,

After blame, apologies will follow,

And that excuse is met with suspicion.

And those excuses lead to doubts.

وتتلوه الشكوك بكل وجه

وتتلوه الشكوك بكل وجه

ويتبعه القطيعة والسباب

ويتبعه القطيعة والسباب

And doubts follow it on every side,

Suspicions will arise from every side,

And estrangement and insults follow it.

Then estrangement and insults come.
