حطمتني الشهور والأعياد
I thank God, and He is worthy of thanks.

The months and feast days have shattered me.
The months and festivals have worn me down.
عشتI lived حتّىuntil رأيتI saw أولادchildren قومpeople
عشت حتّى رأيت أولاد قوم
كنتI was كهلاa mature man شيخاan old man وهمwhile they were أولادchildren
كنت كهلا شيخا وهم أولاد
I have lived to see the children of people
I've lived until I've seen the children
Who were children when I was already a mature, elderly man.
Of a people when I was aged and old, and they were young.
ربّLord هبgrant ليto me الرضاcontentment وكنand be بيto me رحيماmerciful
ربّ هب لي الرضا وكن بي رحيما
واعفand pardon عنّيme ياO منthe One who إليهto Him المعادthe return
واعف عنّي يا من إليه المعاد
Lord, grant me contentment and be merciful to me.
Lord, grant me acceptance, and be merciful with me,
And pardon me, O You to whom is the return.
And pardon me, O He to whom we return.
