from remembrance, kindled by fire,

Ablaze with memories that burn like fire

مخافة أن ينمّ الدمع عنّي

فتحوجني الدموع إلى اعتذار

فتحوجني الدموع إلى اعتذار

for fear that tears might betray me,

Fearing my tears will flow unrestrained

and tears then force me to offer an excuse.

And force me into apologies

وكتمان الهوى خطب عظيم

على قرب الديار من الديار

And concealing love is a grave ordeal,
