أقولI say لصاحبto a friend ليof mine فيهin whom there is تيهhaughtiness
عليّtoward me ولمand have not أردI approached for water يوماever حياضهhis pools
I say to a friend of mine who is haughty
I say to a friend I lost myself in
Toward me, though I have never come to drink at his pools:
He wronged me, yet I never sought his harm
ولمand have not تبللmoistened يداهhis two hands يديّmy two hands يوماever
ولمand have not أحذرI feared لنخوتهon account of his pride القياضهan exchange (meaning uncertain here)
His hands have never moistened mine,
And my hands were never drenched by his blood
Nor have I feared an exchange on account of his pride.
Nor did I fear his pride would seek revenge
بحسبenough for منافعيmy benefits منكfrom you اطّراحيmy being cast aside
إذاprovided that سلمتI remain unharmed وأحتملand I endure الغضاضهthe slight
Being cast aside is benefit enough for me from you,
It's enough for me how much I gained from you
Provided I remain unharmed; I can bear the slight.
So long as I'm safe, I can bear the bitterness
