رأيت الذي بيني وبينك قد وهى

من الحب إلا ما تذكّر ذاكره

I saw that what lay between me and you had grown weak,

I saw that which was between you and I has vanished

Of love, save what the one who remembers it recalled.

Of love, except what a reminiscent mind recalls

ولي موجل في الحب من كل صاحب

ولي موجل في الحب من كل صاحب

إذا ازور عن قصد المودة ناظره

إذا ازور عن قصد المودة ناظره

And every companion gives me cause for fear in love,

And I have a Majlis in love from every companion

When his gaze turns away from affection's straight path.

When from the intention of affection I avert its look

ولم صبح المرء إلا كليله

ولم صبح المرء إلا كليله

إذا لم يكن فيه سرور يباكره

إذا لم يكن فيه سرور يباكره

And a man's morning is but like his night,

And morning has not dawned upon a person

If there is no joy in it to greet him at daybreak.

Except with a night that closely follows it
