I saw Good, small in my sight,

I saw goodness in the eyes of a little one

Frail in body from extreme emaciation.

Weak in body from excessive thinness

فقلت له ضعفت وكنت جزلا

فقلت له ضعفت وكنت جزلا

جميل الحال محمود الفعال

جميل الحال محمود الفعال

So I said to him, "You have grown weak, though once you were robust,

So I said to him, "You've grown weak and were once strong

In fine condition, praiseworthy in deeds."

Fine in state, praiseworthy in deed"

فقال غلبت والدنيا ضروبٌ

فقال غلبت والدنيا ضروبٌ

تقلب أهلها في كل حال

تقلب أهلها في كل حال

He said, "I have been defeated; the world takes many forms,

So he said, "I've been overcome, and the world has all kinds

Turning its people through every condition."

That toss its people in every state"

فقلت ولم غلبت فقال أضحى

فقلت ولم غلبت فقال أضحى

رجالُ الشر أكثر من رجالي

رجالُ الشر أكثر من رجالي

So I asked, "And why were you defeated?" He said, "There are now

So I said, "Why have you been overcome?" He said, "There are now

More men of Evil than men of mine."

More evil men than my men"
