أتيهI act haughtily علىtoward الملوكthe kings بعزّthrough the dignity of فقريmy poverty
وآسوand I remedy الفقرpoverty بالصبرwith patience الجميلgracious
I hold myself above kings through the dignity of my poverty.
I come upon kings with my poverty's pride
And I remedy poverty with gracious patience.
And adorn this poverty with graceful patience
وأعرضand I turn away عنfrom ذويthose possessing الأموالwealth تيهاin pride
كإعراضlike the turning away of العزيزthe mighty one علىtoward الدليلthe guide
And I turn away from the wealthy in pride,
I turn away confused from the wealthy
Like the mighty one's disdain for the guide.
As the dignified turns from the lowly
وأهجرهمand I shun them إذاwhen اجتمعواthey gather جميعاall together
وأجلسand I sit بينamong أبناءsons of السبيلthe road
And I shun them when they all gather,
And I abandon them when they gather
And I sit among the wayfarers.
And sit amongst the wayfarers
