برمتI grew weary بماof what أراهI see it وضاقand became constricted صدريmy breast
برمت بما أراه وضاق صدري
بمنby those whom ألقاهI meet him منamong قومa people تحارbase; contemptible
بمن ألقاه من قوم تحار
I have grown weary of what I see, and my breast is constricted
I reject what I see and my chest tightens,
by those I meet among a people of base character.
From a people I met who are confused.
أذمّI blame زمانهمtheir age ظلماunjustly وجوراand unfairly
أذمّ زمانهم ظلما وجورا
وهمand they بالذمof blame أولىmore deserving فيin العيارthe weighing
وهم بالذم أولى في العيار
I blame their age unjustly and unfairly,
I blame their time for injustice and tyranny,
yet, when weighed, they are more deserving of blame.
And they are most deserving of blame and criticism.
