برمتI grew weary بمنof those whom أراهI see him وضاقand became constricted صدريmy chest
برمت بمن أراه وضاق صدري
بمنby those whom القاهI meet him منfrom among قومa people ثخانthick-witted
بمن القاه من قوم ثخان
I have grown weary of those I see, and my chest is constricted
I turn away from those I see who tighten my chest
By those I meet among a thick-witted people.
From a people whose lineage is thick
أذمّI blame زمانهمtheir age ظلماunjustly وجوراand unfairly
أذمّ زمانهم ظلما وجورا
وهمand they بالذمof blame أولىmore deserving بالمكانin its place
وهم بالذم أولى بالمكان
I blame their age unjustly and unfairly,
Their time is blamed for oppression and tyranny
Yet they are more deserving of blame in its stead.
And they are most deserving of blame
