لي صديق من بني ال

فياض ساءتني خلاله

I have a friend from the sons of al-

Fayyad; his traits have displeased me.

مسمنُ الجثن قد

رثت من الخير حباله

Fattened in [frame?], already

his cords of goodness have worn thin.

ما عليه الطعن لكن

هدف الطعن عياله

The attacks are not against him, but

his dependents are the target of attack.

كل من قصّر عنّي

فضله عان سباله

Whoever falls short toward me

in bounty—his whiskers are abased [reading uncertain].

لك في المقدور رزق

ليس يعدوك خلاله

There is sustenance decreed for you;

its qualities will not pass you by [sense unclear].

سوف يأتيك به الل

ه الذي جل جلاله

Allah will bring it to you,

whose majesty is exalted.

كل من فرّ من المو

ت يد الموت تناله

Everyone who flees from death—

the hand of death reaches him.

كل من كان فقيرا

كان في الموت جماله

Everyone who was poor—

his beauty lay in death.
