فيأتيthen comes غدّtomorrow إلاonly that بكيتI wept علىover أمسyesterday
I endure affliction, finding no rest until tomorrow.
I suffer hardship without respite until tomorrow
Then tomorrow comes, only for me to weep over yesterday.
Yet tomorrow comes and I weep for yesterday

وداعfarewell بكورat dawn أوor رواحan evening departure إلىto رمسa grave
Farewell to the spirit of life and its sweetness—
Peace be upon the soul of life and its goodness
A farewell at dawn, or an evening departure to a grave.
Farewell to the early dawn or spirits until etching
سأبكيI shall weep بدمعwith tears أوor دمblood أشتفيI find relief بهthrough it
فهلso, is there? ليfor me عذرan excuse إنif بكيتI wept علىfor نفسيmyself
I shall weep tears or blood, finding relief thereby.
I will cry with tears or blood with which I am satiated
Have I an excuse, then, if I weep for myself?
So do I have any excuse if I wept for myself

And I did not recognize a sun amid pitch-black darkness.
And denied a sun in the gloom of pitch darkness
By my life, my night was indeed better than my yesterday.
By my life, my night was better than my evening

It is as though youth, while gray hair blots out its light,
As if youth and old age extinguish its light
Were a people's bridegroom who died on his wedding night.
A bride of people who died on their wedding night
