لا أحبّ الوصال بل أتمنّى

لا أحبّ الوصال بل أتمنّى

لا لأنّ الفراق غبّ الوصال

I do not love union; rather, I long.

Not because parting follows union,

Not because separation is more beloved than union

وبلوغ الغايات يدني من النا

وبلوغ الغايات يدني من النا

س وفي الناس فترة الآمال

س وفي الناس فترة الآمال

and attaining goals brings one nearer to peo-

And attaining hopes brings one closer to people

ple; and among people, hopes wane.

And in people is the death of hopes
