If one day your soul demands a pleasure of you,

and evil has a path by which to reach it,

then forsake it and resist what you desire, for

its passion is nothing but an enemy, and resistance a friend.

And who, without fortitude, is able

to restrain it, obstinate and tenacious as it is?

    Human nature insists on plunging

toward the soul’s desires, as it yearns.
