And the gravest of all the misfortunes I have faced—
I see it as what makes life right, though painful—
لقائيmy meeting عدوّيmy enemy حينwhen ألقاهI meet him بالذيwith that which
الاقيI meet صديقيmy friend والغليلand the rancor مقيمabiding
is meeting my enemy, when I meet him, as
I meet my friend, while rancor abides.

وإنّand indeed امرأa man دارىplacated العداthe foes لحليمsurely forbearing
I dissemble with my enemies for fear of their harm;
and a man who placates his foes is surely forbearing.

And in the core of the ancient soul, I see no
equal of mine; among them I am indeed knowledgeable,

except that people bite—there is forbearance in it [wording unclear].
