  1. خذ العفو عن كل مستصحب

    وكل صديق زوى الوجه عنكا

    Accept what comes readily from every companion,

    and every friend who turns his face away from you.

  2. ولا تتواف لمن لم يردك

    فما الحزم صوتك من لم يصنكا

    And do not seek out one who does not want you;

    for there is no prudence in your call to one who has not protected you.

  3. إذا نفسك امتنعت من رضا

    فكيف يطيعك من ليس منكا

    If your own soul refuses contentment,

    then how can one who is not of you obey you?
