واعتاض بالفوز من الباس

واعتاض بالفوز من الباس

Three things—whoever has them is saved

And gains success in place of hardship:

حلم وبعد الحلم شيئان إن

حلم وبعد الحلم شيئان إن

فاتاه نالته يد الياس

فاتاه نالته يد الياس

Forbearance, and after forbearance two things—if

They elude him, the hand of despair reaches him:

حرفة المرء بمقداره

حرفة المرء بمقداره

وخيرها البعد منَ الناس

وخيرها البعد منَ الناس

A man's occupation suited to his ability,

And the best of them: keeping away from people.
