دب البلى فيه وهو حيّ

فما على الأرض منه شي

Decay crept into him while he was still alive,

The form of decay walks upon it while it lives

so nothing of him is left upon the earth

So there is nothing left on earth from it

إلا خيالا إذا تمشّى

أو شبحٌ في القميص حي

أو شبحٌ في القميص حي

except a phantom when he walks,

Except an apparition when it walks

or a living specter in the shirt.

Or a ghost in its shroud lives

طوته أيّامه الخوالي

طوته أيّامه الخوالي

فما له في الشموس في

فما له في الشموس في

His bygone days have folded him up,

Its days folded it away

so he has no shadow beneath the suns.

So it has nothing left in the suns
