وجيد خوف غائلة التوافي

لمن في وصله عتب وعار

finds himself fearing the peril of consorting

And it is good to fear the harm of meeting

with one whose company brings reproach and shame.

So I eat whatever I desire, without objection,

And I drink from little goblets, to my soul’s delight;

And I drink from small cups to delight my soul;

amid merriment, the little goblets please me.

And I have a goblet that I call a tighār,

And I have a cup I call a taghar,

So I drink from the tighār and pay no heed
