Sol 6.1

  1. سنحت أمور فاشتهينا علم ما

    فيها ليحذر غّبها المستسلم

    Matters arose, and we wished to know what

    they held, so that the resigned might beware their consequences.

  2. فدعوت مشهورا حكيما عالما

    بحساب هندسة النجوم يعظم

    So I summoned a renowned sage, learned

    in calculating the geometry of the stars, held in high esteem.

  3. فأقام طالعه وحرّك رأسه

    أي قد علمت مكتمات تكتم

    Then he cast his horoscope and moved his head,

    as if to say, “I have learned secrets kept concealed.”

  4. قال المنجّم في غد سأحييكم

    بالحكم في هذا كما قد يحكمُ

    The astrologer said, “Tomorrow I shall greet you

    with a judgment on this, as one may judge.”

  5. فاعتل هذاك المنحّم في غد

    فإذاه يجهلُ أنّه لا يعلم

    But that astrologer fell ill the next day,

    and behold, he did not know that he did not know.
