خلق الإنسان معلو
لاcompletes 'flawed' وفيهand in him العيبimperfection نحلهan endowment
لا وفيه العيب نحله
Man was created flawed,
with imperfection as his endowment.
إنماonly الإنسانthe human being مخلوcreated (continued)
إنما الإنسان مخلو
قcompletes 'created' منfrom الماءwater بذلهin abasement
ق من الماء بذله
Man is made only
from water, in abasement,
باجتماعthrough the union of الشهوةdesire العلthe higher (continued)
باجتماع الشهوة العل
ياcompletes 'the higher' معwith السفلىthe lower لعلهfor a purpose
يا مع السفلى لعله
through the union of the higher desire
with the lower, for a purpose.
ويربّىand he is reared فيin تعاليdiversions (continued)
ويربّى في تعالي
لcompletes 'diversions' قذاراتfilth مضلّهleading astray
ل قذارات مضلّه
And he is reared amid diversions
of filth that leads astray.
وهوand he فيin الشهوةdesire مأخوheld captive (continued)
وهو في الشهوة مأخو
ذcompletes 'held captive' بأخلاقby traits معلهdebilitating
ذ بأخلاق معله
And in desire he is held captive
by debilitating traits,
ركبتwere implanted فيهin him معwith الطبnatural disposition (continued)
ركبت فيه مع الطب
عcompletes 'natural disposition' بغفراطin excess (probably بإفراط) وقلّهand scantiness
ع بغفراط وقلّه
implanted in him along with his nature,
in excess and in scant measure.

سcompletes 'people' لديهمin their eyes مضمحلّهvanishing

The case of one who finds fault with people
comes to nothing in their eyes.

May God have mercy on one who understands my words

لاحه النفس المذلّه
and begins working to reform
his soul, which brings him low,
تركleft الناسpeople معwith اللGod (continued)
ترك الناس مع الل
هcompletes 'God' علىthroughout مرّthe passing of الأهلّهthe crescent moons
ه على مرّ الأهلّه
leaving people to God
as the crescent moons pass.
فجميعfor all الناسpeople محتاin need (continued)
فجميع الناس محتا
جcompletes 'in need' إلىof العصمةprotection from sin باللّهthrough God
ج إلى العصمة باللّه
For all people stand in need
of God's protection from sin.
