Blessed be God! Neither prudence nor endurance

Avails you unless fate brings it to pass.

Ill luck struck my fortune with a calamity

That has already allied itself with it—neither length nor shortness.

    يشيد ملكهم الأتراك والخزر

    I see men astride marked steeds;

The Turks and Khazars build up their dominion.

They wear silk-and-wool cloth and brocade, lined with

Undergarments of fine linen, anbub cloth, and striped fabrics.

They are awash in water; my house is desolate and dilapidated,

Its courtyards barren—no water and no rain.

I say, while poverty heals me and wounds me,

And deprivation flings me into the deep sea of thought:

My misery will perish, just as your bliss will perish,

And all will be equal when there is neither burden nor refuge.
