إذا عاديت إنسانا ظلوما

إذا عاديت إنسانا ظلوما

على ظلم وتفريط ولوم

على ظلم وتفريط ولوم

If you make an enemy of an unjust person

If I oppose an unjust man

For injustice, negligence, and reproach,

For his injustice, excess and blame

فعاد الناس كلهم جميعا

فعاد الناس كلهم جميعا

ترى وجه المحقّ من الظلوم

ترى وجه المحقّ من الظلوم

Then make enemies of all people, every one;

Then all people altogether

You will discern the face of the one in the right from that of the wrongdoer.

You see the face of the truthful from the unjust

إلى كم لا أرى رجلا كريما

إلى كم لا أرى رجلا كريما

ولا أنفكّ من لؤم اللئيم

ولا أنفكّ من لؤم اللئيم

How long shall I see no noble man,

To how much I do not see a generous man

Nor escape the baseness of the base?

And I do not stop from the blame of the mean

ولا ألقى أخا أدب تماما

ولا ألقى أخا أدب تماما

يخاطبني بألفاظ الحكيم

يخاطبني بألفاظ الحكيم

Nor do I meet a man of perfect refinement

And I do not find a brother of perfect discipline

Who addresses me with the words of a sage.

Who speaks to me with the words of the wise
