إن الحماقة في ثلاثة أنفس

كلّ الأنام إليهم محتاج

كلّ الأنام إليهم محتاج

Indeed, foolishness is found in three people,

whom all humankind needs:

منهم معلم صبية ومزيّن

منهم معلم صبية ومزيّن

وأشدّهم في حمقه نسّاج

وأشدّهم في حمقه نسّاج

among them are a teacher of children and a barber,

and the most foolish of them is a weaver.

ولربّما ذكر المنجّم فيهم

ولربّما ذكر المنجّم فيهم

وكذلك القطان والحلاج

وكذلك القطان والحلاج

And sometimes the astrologer is counted among them,

and likewise the cotton dealer and the cotton carder.
