روحي الفداء لمعشر هلكوا

وهم الكواكب في ذرى المجد

May my soul be ransom for a company who perished,

Who were the stars upon the heights of glory,

الناهضين بكل نائبة

والمنجزين لمنفل الوعد

Who rose to meet every calamity,

And fulfilled their promise to a recipient of bounty.

كانت ضمائرهم كظاهرهم

لا ينطوون على دها حقد

Their inward selves matched their outward selves;

They harbored no malicious guile.

أبلى الثرى أجسامهم وبقى

منهم عليّ تذكّر العهد

The earth wore away their bodies, and what remains

Of them for me is remembrance of our bond.

فإذا وقفت على قبورهم

لم تعرف المولى من العبد

So when you stand at their graves,

You cannot distinguish the master from the slave.
