  1. لما أصبت بناظري

    أصبت بالخطر الكبير

    When I was stricken in my eye,

    I was afflicted with grave peril.

  2. أصبحت حيا مثل مي

    ت أو كمقبور أسير

    I became a living man, yet like one dead,

    or like a buried captive.

  3. كان العزيز يخافني

    فاليوم أخضع للحقير

    The mighty used to fear me;

    but today I submit to the lowly.

  4. كيف العزاء إذا سمع

    ت تناولوا بيد الضرير

    What solace is there when I hear:

    "Take the blind man by the hand"?
