Ask about my passing the night—how I spend it:
Ask how I spend my night, how I pass it
My palm upon my liver, and my tears upon my cheek.
With my palm under my cheek and my tears upon my cheek
أظلّI spend the day علىin شوقlonging وأضحىand I spend the morning علىin جوىheartache
وفيand in كبديmy liver نارٌa fire تضرّمُblazes عنbecause of وجديmy passionate anguish
I spend the day in longing and the morning in heartache.
I remain in yearning and rise in ardour
And in my liver a fire blazes from my passionate anguish.
And in my liver there is a fire kindling because of my passion

منof الوجدpassionate anguish لاneither قبليbefore me أراهI see him ولاnor بعديafter me
And no creature in love has endured what I have endured
And no person in love has found what I found
Of anguish—none before me, I believe, nor after me.
Of passion, neither before me nor after me

أتيهI act haughtily علىtoward المولىthe master وأضخعand I submit (likely intended) للعبدto the slave
And the least of what I endure in love is that I
And the easiest thing I found in love is that
am haughty toward the master and submit to the slave.
I come to Him as the Master and lie down as the slave
