Is made cheap, however dear, by giving it up.

Except what I've left behind

خاطبت بدرا كان لي فاتنا

I addressed a full moon who had enchanted me,

I spoke to Badr, who was alluring

And he had grown haughty toward his own celestial sphere.

Yet wandered lost in his orbit

قلت له زرني فقال اعطني

أصفر عينا عرضه سمكه

أصفر عينا عرضه سمكه

I said to him, “Visit me”; he said, “Give me

I said "Visit me," he said "Pay me"

a yellow gold piece whose width equals its thickness.”

With greedy eyes as wide as fishes

فقلت لما لم أجد مسعدا

تبت من الحب ومن شركه

تبت من الحب ومن شركه

So, when I found no helper, I said:

Since help I could not find

“I have repented of love and of its snares.”

I've repented of love and its fetters
