أهدت له صحبه الدهر التحاريبا
Whoever is time’s intimate amid its vicissitudes,
Whoever is fate's darling finds that it
His companionship with time bestows trials upon him.
Has gifted him the friendship of time's treacheries-
إنif كانwas صفراdevoid منof الآدابrefinement سربلهُclothed him
إن كان صفرا من الآداب سربلهُ
كرrecurrence اللياليthe nights معtogether with التجريبexperience تأديباdiscipline
كر الليالي مع التجريب تأديبا
If he is devoid of refinement, he is clothed
If he's a boor, it will cloak him in refinement's robes;
In discipline by the recurring nights and experience.
The nights and trials make as discipline a gift.
