عذاره المنصبّ في خدّه
The mark of disgrace upon his face:
The mark of shame is on his face
His side-whiskers streaming down his cheek.
His guilt is pouring from his cheek
دبّcrept نباتgrowth of الشعرhair فيon خدهhis cheek
دبّ نبات الشعر في خده
وصدّand turned away عنهfrom him مشتكيthe one lamenting صدّهhis rejection
وصدّ عنه مشتكي صدّه
Hair growth crept across his cheek,
The hair has grown on his cheek
And the one who lamented his rejection turned away from him.
And he who complained of him has turned away
تاهhe grew haughty عليناtoward us بنقاbecause of the clearness of خدّهhis cheek
تاه علينا بنقا خدّه
دهرٌa long time فتهناthen we grew haughty بعدafter مسودهits darkening
دهرٌ فتهنا بعد مسوده
He was haughty toward us over his smooth cheek
He has wandered to us with his bright cheek
For a time; then we grew haughty after it darkened.
An age that has tempted us after its darkness
فصارso he began يشتاقto long إلىfor وصلناunion with us
فصار يشتاق إلى وصلنا
ونحنwhile we نشتاقlong إلىfor بعدهdistance from him
ونحن نشتاق إلى بعده
So he began to long for union with us,
So he longs for our company
While we long for distance from him.
While we long for his absence
