نبت الحرف وجفاً

ففَركناهُ فخفا

ففَركناهُ فخفا

The ḥarf sprouted and grew harsh;

The cress sprouted and dried,

we rubbed it, and it faded away.

so we rubbed it, and it disappeared.

واشتكت عيني فقالوا

واشتكت عيني فقالوا

خذ لها بالليل حرفا

خذ لها بالليل حرفا

My eye complained, and they said,

And my eye complained, so they said,

“Take some ḥarf for it at night.”

“Take cress for it at night.”

فإذا الحرف دوائي

فإذا الحرف دوائي

وبه أشفى وأكفى

وبه أشفى وأكفى

And so the ḥarf is my medicine;

And behold, cress is my remedy;

through it I am healed and find it enough.

and through it I am healed and provided for.
