أحب الوفا والعفو عن كل مذنب

أحب الوفا والعفو عن كل مذنب

وأوثر إيثار الجميل من الفعل

وأوثر إيثار الجميل من الفعل

I love fidelity, and forgiveness for every offender;

I love faithfulness and forgiveness for every wrongdoer.

I prize the choosing of whatever is beautiful in deeds.

And I prefer to choose what is good among deeds.

وأوطنت نفسي فاطمأنت وأوطنت

وأوطنت نفسي فاطمأنت وأوطنت

على خلق يرضى به الله من مثلي

على خلق يرضى به الله من مثلي

I trained my soul; it grew serene and made its home

And I trained my soul; it grew tranquil and settled

in conduct that God approves from one such as me.

Into a character God approves in one like me.

وأهوى لإخواني الذي لي أحبّه

وأهوى لإخواني الذي لي أحبّه

وأحلم عن قول السفيه على الجهل

وأحلم عن قول السفيه على الجهل

For my brothers I desire what I love for myself,

And I desire for my brothers what I love for myself.

and I forbear the words of a fool in his ignorance.

And I bear patiently with the fool's words, despite his ignorance.

وأعتقد الحسنى لكل ابن حرّة

وأعتقد الحسنى لكل ابن حرّة

على خلقي أو في سبيل وفي شكيلي

على خلقي أو في سبيل وفي شكيلي

I think the best of every freeborn man—

And I harbor goodwill toward every son of a free woman,

of my character, or one who walks my path and is of my kind.

Of my character, or on a path, and in my likeness.

وأشهد أن الل لا شيء غيره

وأشهد أن الل لا شيء غيره

وأنسب أحكام الإله إلى العدل

وأنسب أحكام الإله إلى العدل

I bear witness that God—there is nothing other than Him—

And I testify that God—there is nothing other than Him.

and I ascribe the decrees of the Deity to justice.

And I ascribe God's decrees to justice.

وأعلم أن الله عدل قضاؤهُ

وأعلم أن الله عدل قضاؤهُ

وتعويجه رجلي دليل على العدل

وتعويجه رجلي دليل على العدل

I know that God's decree is just,

And I know that God's judgment is just.

and His making my leg crooked is proof of justice.

And His making my leg crooked is evidence of justice.

وأعلم أن الله خصّ محمّدا

وأعلم أن الله خصّ محمّدا

وفضّله جودا على سائر الرسل

وفضّله جودا على سائر الرسل

I know that God singled out Muhammad

And I know that God singled out Muhammad

and, in His generosity, favored him above all the messengers.

And generously favored him above all other messengers.
