A watchman from my own soul is appointed over the soul,
I have a guardian over my soul from my own soul
keeping it from what is neither lawful nor seemly.
To protect it from what is unlawful and adorn it with virtue

Over it, for its sake, from him come a watchman and a restrainer;
It has a guardian and warner from it
and from it, for its sake, within it, comes reliance on him.
And it relies on it to guard against its own evil

It heeds the one who keeps careful watch over its evil;
It is mindful of the One who cares for it
for its reliance rests on him alone.
So it depends only on Him

Its thought grew clear within its thought, so it seems,
Its thought is pure within itself, so it seems
when viewed through thought, a thought embodied.
That when examined by thought, a thought is embodied
