I implored you by skill and the razors,
I implore you, with skill and solace,
And by the lancet and the jalāsī comb,
With razor and comb of assembly,
وبالجلمand by the shears الموكلentrusted بالنواصيwith the forelocks
وبالجلم الموكل بالنواصي
كوقعlike the striking of المرهفاتthe keen swords علىupon القلاسيthe skullcaps
كوقع المرهفات على القلاسي
And by the shears entrusted with the forelocks,
With shears entrusted with tips,
Like keen swords striking skullcaps,
Like clatter of keen ones on drinking cups,
ألاcome خذليtake for me بكعبكwith your heel بروانbarwān (unclear term)
ألا خذلي بكعبك بروان
يمكنpossible وإلاand otherwise حلقshave رأسيmy head
يمكن وإلا حلق رأسي
Come, take barwān for me with your heel,
Come now, abandon me not with your heel, brown one,
If possible; otherwise, shave my head.
If possible, else my head be shorn.
