ولقد رميت من الزمان بنائب

ولقد رميت من الزمان بنائب

أدمت مواضع عضّه أسنانه

أدمت مواضع عضّه أسنانه

And indeed, time has struck me with a calamity;

Time's calamities have surely wounded me,

Its teeth have made the sites of its bite bleed.

And left their marks with gnawing teeth engraved.

والموت يحكم بيننا بسويّة

والموت يحكم بيننا بسويّة

ويُبين فضل قضائه عيدانه

ويُبين فضل قضائه عيدانه

And death judges between us equally,

But death rules over us with equity,

And its wooden poles reveal the excellence of its judgment.

Revealing justice in the staves he craved.
