قد سقط العارُ فلا عارُ

قد سقط العارُ فلا عارُ

وليس للأحرار أنصار

وليس للأحرار أنصار

Shame has fallen away, so no shame remains.

Shame has fallen, so there is no shame,

And the honorable have no supporters.

And the free have no supporters.

واستُضعِفَ الحق وقلّ الحيا

واستُضعِفَ الحق وقلّ الحيا

وصار للجُهّالِ أنصارُ

وصار للجُهّالِ أنصارُ

And truth has been belittled, and modesty has dwindled.

Truth is weakened and life diminished,

And the ignorant have gained supporters.

And fools have become supporters.

واستوتِ الجنةُ فيما أرى

واستوتِ الجنةُ فيما أرى

عند ذوي التخليط والنار

عند ذوي التخليط والنار

And Paradise, as I see it, has become equal

Paradise seems to me,

to Hell in the eyes of the muddle-headed.

The same for the corrupt and the virtuous.

وكان قبل الدارِ جيرانها

وكان قبل الدارِ جيرانها

فاليومَ لا دارٌ ولا جارُ

فاليومَ لا دارٌ ولا جارُ

And once, a house's neighbors came before the house.

Those who were once its neighbors,

But today there is neither house nor neighbor.

Today there is no home or neighbor.

وكان أهلُ الخير ساداتنا

وكان أهلُ الخير ساداتنا

سموا إلى التفضيل أبصار

سموا إلى التفضيل أبصار

And once, good people were our leaders.

The good people were our leaders,

Their eyes rose toward distinction.

Their sights set on noble goals.

فاليومَ أهلُ الخير قد أُهملوا

فاليومَ أهلُ الخير قد أُهملوا

وسادَ شريرٌ وعيّار

وسادَ شريرٌ وعيّار

But today, good people have been neglected.

Today the good are neglected,

And a wicked man and a rogue hold sway.

And evil and deceit have prevailed.

وكلّ شيء فله دولة

وكلّ شيء فله دولة

وفيه إقبالٌ وإدبار

وفيه إقبالٌ وإدبار

And everything has its turn of fortune,

All things have their seasons,

with both rise and decline.

Rising and falling in their turn.
