كثير المال والخدم
I am afflicted with one haughty and insolent,
With conceit and arrogance extreme
Rich in wealth and servants.
Laden with wealth and retinue grand
قضيبa slender branch فوقهabove it قمرa moon
قضيب فوقه قمر
يميسhe sways gracefully بهwith it علىon قدمa foot
يميس به على قدم
A slender branch with a moon above it,
A crescent moon atop his rod
He sways with it on his feet.
Strutting about with haughty stand
أراهI see him فيشتفيso is soothed نظريmy sight
أراه فيشتفي نظري
ويقطعand cuts off وصلهunion with him عدميmy poverty
ويقطع وصله عدمي
I see him, and my sight is soothed,
My eyes feast on him, sated not
Yet my poverty cuts off union with him.
Though severed be our bond for aye
فطرفيso my eye منهbecause of him فيin نعمdelights
فطرفي منه في نعم
وقلبيand my heart منهbecause of him فيin سقمsickness
وقلبي منه في سقم
So my eye finds delight in him,
My eyes delight in his charm forsooth
And my heart finds sickness in him.
My heart aches for him night and day
