1. أشدّ من صعقة القبور

    دخول همّ على سرور

    Harsher than the shock of the graves

    is worry intruding upon joy.

  2. وخصلةٌ إن كشفت عنها

    لم تمس منه على غرور

    And a trait—if you uncover it,

    you will not remain deluded about it:

  3. أسرع شيء إلى خراب

    بناء دار بهدم دور

    The quickest thing to fall into ruin

    is building a house by demolishing houses.
