ألفت التغرّبَ والغربَه

ففي كل يوم أخا تربه

ففي كل يوم أخا تربه

I have grown used to living far from home and to estrangement.

I became accustomed to estrangement and being a stranger,

So each day I am a brother to the soil:

For each day a brother becomes dust.

فيوم مقيم على نعمة

فيوم مقيم على نعمة

ويؤم مقيم على نكبه

ويؤم مقيم على نكبه

One day I dwell in prosperity,

One day settled in bounty,

And one day I dwell in misfortune.

Another grieves in adversity.

ومما يسكنُ وجد الفتى

ومما يسكنُ وجد الفتى

رفيقٌ تطيب به الصحبه

رفيقٌ تطيب به الصحبه

And among the things that soothe a young man's sorrow

And of what brings peace to the young man -

Is a companion whose company is sweet.

A companion with whom friendship is sweet.
