إلا وطئت برجلي
And I left no land
And I have not left any lands
without treading it with my foot.
Without treading them with my feet
فلمyet ... not أفدI gained قطّever شيئاanything
فلم أفد قطّ شيئا
بحسنthrough soundness of رأيjudgment وعقلand reason
بحسن رأي وعقل
Yet I never gained a thing
Yet I have never gained anything
through sound judgment and reason.
With wisdom and intellect
وكلماand whenever ازددتI increased حرصاeagerness
وكلما ازددت حرصا
لمdid not يلحقreach الخلّthe vinegar بقليmy greens
لم يلحق الخلّ بقلي
And however much my eagerness grew,
And the more greed I acquired
the vinegar never reached my greens.
No honey reached my heart
يريكit shows you أنthat العطاياthe gifts
يريك أن العطايا
منfrom فعلهHis doing ليسnot فعليmy doing
من فعله ليس فعلي
This shows you that gifts
It shows you that gifts
come from His doing, not mine.
