And when the door to your livelihood narrows,

When the door of provision is constricted for you,

then don the garment of your patient endurance.

And time, in its movements

The days in their motion and stillness -

and its stillness, is your entire lesson.

Let them not distress you.

Do not reproach time,

Do not blame time,

for it does not move at your choosing.

For it flows not by your will.

فلرب ذنب قد أبرّ

على انتخابك واختصارك

For many a sin has surpassed

Perhaps a sin has been absolved

your selection and your abridgment.

By your choice and determination.
