قَدindeed كُنتَyou had أَسلَكتَyou led الرَجاءَhope سَبيلَهُits path
وَأَقَمتَand you remained مُنتَظِرَawaiting الرَجاءِhope زَماناfor a time
You had indeed led hope along its path,
You had followed hope's path
And remained for a time, awaiting hope.
And waited expectantly for some time
لَوif نِلتَهاyou attained her كانَتshe would have been لِقَلبِكَfor your heart مَقنَعاًenough
مِنin place of كُلِّevery شَيءٍthing كائِنٍexisting ماwhatever كاناit might be
Had you attained her, she would have been enough for your heart,
If you had attained it, it would have satisfied your heart
In place of anything else, whatever it might be.
From everything happening as it was
إِنَّindeed الَّتيshe who كَتَبَتshe wrote بِماwith what كَتَبتshe wrote بِهِwith it
تَرَكَتshe left رَجاءَكَyour hope واقِفاًstanding حَيراناbewildered
Indeed, she who wrote what she wrote
Indeed she who wrote with what she wrote
Has left your hope standing bewildered.
Left your hope standing confused
لَوif كُنتَyou were مِنهاfrom her واثِقاًsure بِمَوَدَّةٍof affection
لَهَوَيتَyou would have loved ماwhat تَأَتيshe brings بِهِwith it أَحياناsometimes
Had you been sure of affection from her,
If you were confident in her affection
You would have loved what she sometimes does.
You would disregard what she does sometimes
