مَنwhoever كانَwould يَبكيweep ليfor me لِرُزءٍover a loss موجِعٍpainful
مَن كانَ يَبكي لي لِرُزءٍ موجِعٍ
فَاليَومَthen today يَومُthe day رَزيئَتيmy calamity فَليَبكِso let him weep ليfor me
فَاليَومَ يَومُ رَزيئَتي فَليَبكِ لي
Whoever would weep for me over a painful loss,
He who wept over my painful misfortunes
today, then, is the day of my calamity, so let him weep for me.
Today is my day of misfortune, so let him weep for me
ظَعَنَdeparted الَّذينَthose whom أُحِبُّهُمI love them فَتَحَمَّلواand they set out
ظَعَنَ الَّذينَ أُحِبُّهُم فَتَحَمَّلوا
نَفسيmy soul الفِداءُthe ransom لِظاعِنٍfor one departing مُتَحَمِّلِsetting out
نَفسي الفِداءُ لِظاعِنٍ مُتَحَمِّلِ
Those I love have departed and set out on their journey.
My loved ones are gone, though they endured
May my soul be the ransom for one departing on his journey.
My soul is the redemption for the enduring gone
ذَهَبواthey went away فَصِرتُso I became خِلافَهُمbehind them مُتَلَدِّداًlooking this way and that
ذَهَبوا فَصِرتُ خِلافَهُم مُتَلَدِّداً
مُتَحَيِّراًbewildered ذاfull of حَسرَةٍsorrow وَتَملمُلِand restlessness
مُتَحَيِّراً ذا حَسرَةٍ وَتَملمُلِ
They went away, so I was left behind them, looking this way and that,
They left and I remained confused
bewildered, full of sorrow and restlessness.
