يَعطِفُsways بِالحُبِّthrough love غَيرُone not مُنعَطِفِswayed
What do you say of a lovesick youth,
What do you say of a stubborn lad
Whom one unmoved sways through love?
Who loves relentlessly, never turning back?
جَعَلتِyou have made لا“no” سُنَّةًa custom مُؤَبَّدَةًeverlasting
بِاللَهِby God قوليsay نَعَم“yes” وَلاand “no” فَخَفيso beware
You have made “no” an everlasting custom.
You've set no lasting precedent -
By God, say “yes”—and beware of “no.”
For God's sake, say "yes" and do not conceal!
أَوقَعَbrought about بِيَupon me الحُبَّlove قَولُthe words واصِفَةٍof a woman describing
ياOh لَيتَهاwould that she لَمdid not تَقُلspeak وَلَمand did not تَصِفِdescribe
A woman’s words of description made me fall in love.
A description of love has left its mark;
Oh, would that she had neither spoken nor described!
If only she'd not said it nor described!

Even if on a piece of pottery.
Even if on a fragment of pottery.
