ماnot كانَthere was فيin الدورِthe houses مِنany أُنسٍcompanionship بِغَيرِكُمُwith anyone other than you
أَيّامَin the days when مَنزِلُكُمyour dwelling فيin جانِبِthe side of الدورِthe houses
There was no companionship in the houses except with you,
There was no comfort in the houses without you all,
in the days when your dwelling stood beside the houses.
The days you dwelled in the neighborhood.
وَكُلُّand every مِصرٍcity وَإِنand even if كانَwas الأَنيسُthe companion بِهِin it
ماso long as لَمnot تَحُلّيهِyou dwell in it قَفرٌa desolate waste غَيرُnot مَعمورِinhabited
And every city, even if company is found there,
And every place of stay, though it had a companion within,
so long as you do not dwell there, is a desolate, uninhabited waste.
Was desolate wilderness unless graced by you.
فَإِنَّfor indeed حُبَّكِloving you قُربانٌan offering وَنافِلَةٌand a voluntary act of devotion
وَحُبَّand loving غَيرِكِanyone other than you ذَنبٌa sin غَيرُnot مَغفورِforgiven
For loving you is an offering and a voluntary act of devotion,
For your love is an offering and a supererogation,
and loving anyone else is an unforgiven sin.
While love of another is a sin beyond forgiveness.
قَالواthey said كَتَمتَyou concealed اِسمَهاher name فَاِنعَتso describe مَحاسِنَهاher charms
وَذاكَand that خَطبٌa matter جَليلٌweighty غَيرُnot مَحقورِbelittled
They said, "You concealed her name, so describe her charms."
They said you concealed her name, so described her beauties,
And that is a weighty matter, not to be taken lightly.
And that is a great matter beyond estimation.
وَهَلand can يَقومُdo justice بِوَصفِto the description of الشَمسِthe sun واصِفُهاits describer
وَالشَمسُand the sun مِنof جَوهَرٍsubstance عالٍsublime وَمِنand of نورِlight
And can anyone describing the sun do it justice,
Can one describe the sun, though it describes itself
when the sun is of sublime substance and of light?
Being of sublime essence and made of light?
