أَقَرُّmost gladdening الناسَthe people كُلِّهِمُall of them لِعَينيto my eye
يَرىthinks قَتليmy being killed يَتِمُّbecomes complete بِهِthrough it السُرورُjoy
The one who most delights my eye among all people
thinks that killing me will make joy complete.
فَإِنso if أَحزَنI grieve عَلَيكِover you (feminine) فَكَمthen how much سُرورٍjoy
لَناfor us قَدindeed كانَwas إِذwhen أَنتُمyou (plural) حُضورُpresent
So if I grieve for you, how much joy
was ours when you were present!
فَحالَthen intervened الدَهرُtime بينَكُمُbetween you (plural) وَبَينيand between me
فَلاso neither حُزنٌsorrow يَدومُendures وَلاَnor سُرورُjoy
Then time came between you and me,
so neither sorrow nor joy endures.
