بَرىwasted away جَسَديmy body ماthat which بيis within me مِنَof الحُبِّlove بَعدَكُمsince your departure
بَرى جَسَدي ما بي مِنَ الحُبِّ بَعدَكُم
فَياso, oh لَيتَwould that شِعريmy knowing كَيفَhow وَجدُكُمyour longing بَعديafter my departure
فَيا لَيتَ شِعري كَيفَ وَجدُكُم بَعدي
The love within me has wasted my body since your departure.
My body is devoid of love after you
Oh, would that I knew how you have yearned since my departure.
Oh, would that I knew how you fared after me!
وَكُنتُand I was اِمرَأًa man صَعباًunyielding عَلىfor مَنwhoever يَقودُنيleads me
وَكُنتُ اِمرَأً صَعباً عَلى مَن يَقودُني
فَمَرَّغتُso I rubbed فيin عَفرِthe dust of التُرابِthe earth لَكمfor you خَدّيmy cheek
فَمَرَّغتُ في عَفرِ التُرابِ لَكم خَدّي
And I was a man hard for anyone to lead.
And I was a difficult man for anyone to lead
Yet for you I rubbed my cheek in the dust of the earth.
So I rubbed my cheek in the dust for you
فَدوميso remain عَلىtrue to العَهدِthe pledge الَّذيthat كانَwas بَينَناbetween us
فَدومي عَلى العَهدِ الَّذي كانَ بَينَنا
فَإِنّيfor indeed I لَكُمto you ماas long as دُمتُI remain حَيّاًalive عَلىtrue to العَهدِthe pledge
فَإِنّي لَكُم ما دُمتُ حَيّاً عَلى العَهدِ
So remain true to the pledge that was between us.
Then keep the pact that was between us
For I will keep that pledge to you as long as I live.
For I am yours, while alive, true to the pact
