لاno لَومَblame أَنthat غَضِبَتshe grew angry عَلَيكَwith you فَإِنَّهاfor indeed she
سَمِعَتshe heard لَعَمرُكَby your life أَعظَمَthe greatest البُهتانِslander
She is not to blame for being angry with you, for she
I do not blame her for being angry with you, for she
has heard, by your life, the gravest slander.
Has indeed heard, by your life, a most vile slander.
زَعَمَclaimed الرَسولُthe messenger بِأَنَّنيthat I راوَدتُهُI made advances to him
كَذَبَlied الرَسولُthe messenger وَمُنزِلِby the Revealer of الفُرقانِthe Criterion (the Qur’an)
The messenger claimed that I had made advances to him.
The Messenger alleged that I seduced him -
The messenger lied, by the Revealer of the Criterion!
The Messenger has lied, and so the Revealer of the Qur'an.
ماnot كُنتُI was أَجمعُI combine خَصلَتَينtwo traits خِيانَةًbetrayal
لَكُمُof you (plural) وَبَيعَand selling كَرامَةٍdignity بِهَوانِfor humiliation
I would never combine two traits: betrayal
I would never combine two qualities of sin: betrayal
of you, and selling dignity for humiliation.
Of you, and the selling of honor so cheaply.

All the beloved have shown tenderness, yet it is as though she
My loved ones have all turned away, as though
has been charged with learning to forsake.
They were assigned to learn estrangement.
