أَظَلومُO Zalum حانَthe time has come إِلىto القُبورِthe graves ذَهابيmy departure
وَبَليتُand I have wasted away قَبلَbefore المَوتِdeath فيin أَثوابيmy clothes
O Zalum, the time has come for me to go to the graves.
My going to the graves has become inevitable
And I have wasted away before death, within my clothes.
And I have worn out before death in my clothes
فَعَلَيكِso upon you ياO سَكَنيmy solace السَلامُpeace فَإِنَّنيfor indeed I
عَمّاafter قَليلٍa little while فاعلَمِنَّso know for certain حِسابيmy reckoning
So peace be upon you, my solace, for I
So peace be upon you, my home, for I
shall soon face my reckoning—know this well.
Will know my account before long
جَرَّعتِنيyou made me swallow غُصَصَchoking pangs المَنِيَّةِof death بِالهَوىthrough love
أَفَماwill you not, then بِعَيشِكِby your life تَرحَمينَhave mercy on شَبابيmy youth
You made me swallow the choking pangs of death through love.
You made me drink the cups of death passionately
Will you not, then—by your life—have mercy on my youth?
Will you not then have mercy on my youth?
سُبحانَglory be to مَنHim who لَوif شاءَHe willed سَوّىmade equal بَينَناthe two of us
وَأَدالَand granted victory مِنكِover you لَقَدindeed أَطَلتِyou have prolonged عَذابيmy torment
Glory be to Him who, had He willed, would have made us equal
Glory to Him who, had He willed, would have reconciled us
and granted me victory over you; you have indeed prolonged my torment.
And removed from you - you have indeed prolonged my torment
