O you who have sensed slumber, I have spent the night seeking it,
O you who felt distressed since he disappeared from my eyelids and left yearning in his place
since it vanished from my eye and left grief in its place.
I have brought this endless affliction upon myself through my own doing
أَناI المَشومُthe ill-omened one عَلىupon نَفسيmyself كَسَبتُI earned لَهاfor it
هَذاthis البَلاءَthe affliction الَّذيthat لاnot يَنقَضيends أَبَداever
I am my own ill omen; I have earned for myself
this affliction that never ends.
